What makes British Pubs so Special

British Pubs, Why are they the best?

The local, The watering hole, The establishment. To the British these terms are for 1 thing and 1 thing only. A Pub, Renowned all over the world, the landmark of british inventions, a pub is more than a place to drink, eat microwave food and complain about your accumulator not coming in (Thanks again Watford) it is a place steeped in history. the focus of community life in villages, the place to exchange knowledge and ideas, and let's be honest the place to destress after the working week. But,  how does it achieve all these things and more?

Ambience

The mood of pubs is extremely different to bars in other countries. British pubs come in all shapes and sizes, from quiet relaxing environments to flat roof pubs that should never be set foot in quite frankly:

People visit pubs any time of the day to work, read, judge others around them. Or simply to enjoy a tasty beverage. From the construction siters to the business executives. All are welcome in (most) establishments.

History of Inn's

British pubs came from old houses. No two pubs are ever the same, (Like I said with the flat roof ones) they share many characteristics for the most part: a regular called Barry (Do Barrys get born anymore? I always thought the just appear at age 35 with 6 points on their driving license?). A sub par Cider selection and no darts table in sight. The names are often traditional as well, and have imaginative and quite frankly weird names (Unless its "Queens Head").

The old public houses have barely changed since being built, if walls could talk they would certainly have a few tales. Several pubs claim to be the oldest in the UK or some other nonsense like "1st pub in the UK to serve crisps or something.

Pub Grub

All pub grub, Sunday roasts Scampi and chips, Steak and kidney pie and chips, anything to do with chips really. Food served in pubs is centered around British cuisine, along with burgers Indian and some Chinese if you search hard enough.

Beverages

Alcohol, lot and lots of alcohol. Of course as well they have soft drinks for kids as it is a place for one and all to come and spend time in. From craft ales and ciders to fine wines, gins and brandy. It is essentially a festive a booze that is on every day/night.

Things To Do

Sitting down and drinking isn’t the only thing pubs have to offer ;pub quizzes, darts and pool are all things that have become well known for being the things you do in a drinking establishment. Many pubs are family friendly as well, playgrounds outside or indoor play areas for toddlers.
